This is a risky buy July 10, 2008 Willy C. Shih (Concord, MA) The first unit I ordered came damaged. The packaging really left a lot to be desired, and I wonder how they can reasonably expect to ship these units without damage when they have such deficient packaging. They were pretty good about shipping a new unit, and when it arrived, it worked pretty well for about 70 days. Then the temperature control unit on one side went open loop and drove the temperature down to 35-40 degrees (set point was 55 degrees). I called on the last day of what turned out to be a 90 day warranty, Vinotemp promised to get back to me, and I heard nothing for three weeks. Meanwhile, the other side went crazy on temperature control, so both sides don't work now. So I called them again today ... we're still trying to work through this problem. They remembered that I had called, but didn't say anything about having done nothing about it. For now, I unplug the unit at night and it gradually warms up, and then I plug it in in the morning and it gradually cools down. This was NOT the intended use model.

I was a little nervous about this purchase because of the previous reviews. I went ahead and did it anyway and I am happy I did. This is a great unit! Ours came in prefect condition. I was unsure about how to set the two compartments so I emailed Vinotemp's customer service and they were very quick to respond and very helpful. I would give this product my highest recomendation.
Packaging below minimum level : expect damaged unit on delivery June 8, 2008 E. S. M. Edouart (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read the reviews before ordering this item. At first I was concerned about the packaging, then when I read the mail from VP ( Alvin J Patrick said : " all products shipped after November 1st are double boxed...)) about improving the the packaging I decided to go for it. Shame on him ! How was the packaging before ? In the double cardboard a very slim layer of styrofoam is supposed to be protecting the cabinet. No way it can be protected! ! the cabinet I received was damaged on delivery ! The screws for handles were missing. Then if you try to load with burgundy bottles, again disappointment is there again, no room for them! unless you remove the trays. A summary: Get something else than this, it is a waste of time and money
Beware! Shipping problems have not been fixed May 19, 2008 K. Paul 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Took a chance on this Vinotemp based on the input by the companies Mr. Alvin Patrick that thier numerous instances of shipping damage had been fixed. They have not! Although the item arrived double boxed and without noticable damage to the packaging, removal of the second box revealed a huge dent in the metal in the top rear of the product. The metal had been dented in at least an inch and a half. Looked like someone had swung a pick axe at it then packaged it up and sent it on it's merry way. We have just started the return procedure so don't know what hassles we are in for, but based on this an the experience of many others who have had similar experiences you may want to consider another product
You would think they would want to help you.... May 19, 2008 Eric (Manalapan, NJ) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
You would think they would want to help you but you would be surprised by what a company will do once they get your money. I bough this product as a Christmas present for my parents. We had pretty much the same exact problem as another person who posted a complaint. KC states,
"If how I was treated is considered 'superior customer service,' then you are completely out of touch with what is actually going on at your company!
My first Vinotemp TEDS (made in China) had a thermostat that broke within 3 weeks, and the replacement wine cooler (which was also dented on top) broke within 6 weeks.
Unfortunately my second chiller was no longer covered under the initial product's 90 day warranty (I purchased the product in person at your company, not on Amazon). If it were not for my credit card's extended warranty I would be out nearly $350, not to mention my time and trouble, making two two-hour round trips to Vinotemp."
Wow the same thing happened to us! When we plugged in our first cooler the thing ran on max cool and brought the temp all the way to 35 degrees!! So we called customer service and the first thing they wanted was the serial number. So I gave it to them and they said, "Sir we don't have that on record, sorry we can't help you." HA, I told them thats not my problem you can't keep a record of your own products. They eventually after a couple of calls sent someone out to fix it.
The first thing that that person said when he saw the cooler was this thing is fried you need a new one. So we shipped it back and Vinotemp at least sent us a new one. Guess what, same problem. HAHA. This time however it was able to be fixed. Only took two months after I bought the thing, to actually be able to us it. I told my parents I was sorry that they had to go through all this effort for something I bought as a gift for them but at least it works.
Well, I should have never said that. Two months later, same problem, it goes max cool and we can't control the temp. We call customer service and they say, "sorry its past the 90 day guarantee, nothing we can do." If it wasn't for the extended warranty from my credit card we would be screwed.
So, don't even think about this product. If you need help you won't get it. I can see why they only have a 90 day warranty, if it was any longer they would go out of business from the repair bills.... The one thing I can say to people is get an AMEX card. They at least will take care of you! ERIC
