1 out of 5 stars Disastrous design   March 26, 2008

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT if you value your wines. There is an extremely disastrous flaw in the design, especially for red wines. If you lose power because of an outage or surge, the design automatically resets the temperature to 7 degrees Centrigrade or 45 degrees Fahrenheit. We found this out the hard way.

You would THINK the company would be able to grasp the concept that whatever setting was previously in place would be the setting to restore temperature to, but this simple piece of logic is apparently beyond Cuisinart's ability to grasp, much less implement.

When a power outage occurred during the day when no one was home, we came home to find hundreds of dollars of red wine at 45 degrees F. It then happened a second time. You can argue that the problem is the frequency of power shortages, but brownouts are a fact of life, and well-thought out product design should account for this. The logic is not rocket science.

Needless to say, we will not be buying ANYTHING from Cuisinart again.

2 out of 5 stars wine cellar review   January 21, 2008

We ordered this wine cellar around Thanksgiving for the Christmas season. It arrived by mid December but didn't work. We returned it and received our replacement in mid January. It was dented on the top, but we decided to keep it just to prevent hassling with another return. We should have just bought it locally.

5 out of 5 stars Stylish and Functional   January 8, 2008

I bought this as a Christmas present for my folks and boy where they Thrilled! The brushed stainless-steel front is a great match for their refrigerator, and it fit perfectly on their counter space where their old microwave had once been (now over the stove.) Very stylish and quiet. I read other reviews for varying models stating that they can be quite loud. My parents have had this for 2 weeks now and have no such complaint (thank goodness) they are extremely happy with it. The digital thermostat and pre-set temperature options make using this cellar a breeze.

As a disclaimer - I did know in advance that this wouldn't be used by my parents to store wines (wink wink, nudge nudge), so this might not be ideal for the enthusiast who's hoping to be able to store and age a few of their favorites. In my parents case, they just happen to entertain a lot and 12 bottles... well those come and go frequently and often. This was just something to free up their fridge space, while still being able to keep their wines at an ideal serving temperature (Red's they just take out before guests arrive.) This was definitely a great buy IMO. I may consider purchasing one for myself (as soon as I manage to land that dream kitchen of mine...)
